We are delighted to announce the First Latin American Summer School on Knowledge Graphs and the Semantic Web co-located with KGSWC. The Summer School is sponsored by the Millenium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD) and is co-organised by Yusniel Hidalgo, Amed Leiva Mederos, Aidan Hogan, Jose Emilio Labra, and Boris Villazon-Terrazas.
The immediate goal of the Summer School is to provide attendees a comprehensive introduction to the topics of Knowledge Graphs and the Semantic Web, with particular emphasis on reaching Cuban students of Computer Science courses (though all attendees are welcome). The longer-term goal of the Summer School is to foster an emerging network of expertise on these topics within the Latin American region.
The Summer School will provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment in which participants will benefit not only from tutorials and practical sessions but also from informal and social interactions with established researchers and the other participants of the school.
The Summer School will be taught in Spanish, and will consist of nine tutorials taught by international experts on the topic of Knowledge Graphs and the Semantic Web; two practical sessions will provide hands-on experience for participants. Diplomas will be awarded to certify participation in the school.
Attendees will be provided accommodation at the Universidad Central “Marta Abreu” de Las Villas. Transfer to the venue of the school as well as lunch will be provided. The registration costs will be US$150, scholarships will be available for some of the attendants.
In order to apply for the school please scroll to the end of the page or click here to fill out the application form.

He has been part of several editorial and program committees and chaired the academic committees of ICDT 2015, ISWC 2015 and PODS 2018. His research areas are data management, logical applications in computer science and the semantic web.
Director and Professor of the Department of Computer Science at the Universidad de Talca; Bachelor of Engineering from the Universidad Católica de Santa María; Doctor in Computer Science from the University of Chile; Postdoctoral Researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam; Adjunct Researcher of the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD). He has been part of several program committees and has won Best Paper at ISWC 2018 for his work on the semantics of SPARQL. He has also been active in the standardization of graph querying languages and benchmarks through the Linked Data Benchmarking Council (LDBC) with participation from companies including IBM, Neo4j and Oracle. His areas of interest are databases for graphs, theory and design of query languages for graphs, data analysis with graph structure and semantic web, among others.
Associate Professor of the Department of Computer Science at the Universidad de Chile; Doctor in Computer Science of the Pontifical Catholic University; Associate Researcher of the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD). He has received several awards for his research, including awards for the best research paper in five international conferences (ISWC 2006 in Atlanta, United States, ESWC 2007 in Innsbruck, Austria, PODS 2011 in Athens, Greece, WWW 2012 in Lyon, France, and ISWC 2017 Vienna, Austria), the Microsoft Research PhD Fellowship (Redmond, United States, 2009), the Ramón Salas-Edwards Award from the Institute of Engineers of Chile (2012), and the SWSA Ten-Years Award (Kobe, Japan, 2016 ). Among his interests are the analysis of social and political data, and the promotion of the inclusion of Computational Thinking skills at the school level in Chile.
Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Universidad de Chile; Doctor in Computer Science from the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI) at the National University of Ireland, Galway; Associate Research at the Millennium Institute for Foundational Research on Data (IMFD). He is part of the editorial board of two journals: the Journal of Web Semantics (JWS) and the Semantic Web Journal (SWJ).
